Our Story: How Bella Became the Heart of Pawfect Doggy

In 2023, my life changed abruptly. After twenty‑five years as an HGV driver, I was medically retired when syncope episodes began without warning. My wife and I were still grieving the loss of our German Shepherd to a brain tumour, and neither of us imagined bringing another dog into the home. But as the attacks continued, it became clear that I needed a trained partner—someone who could alert me to danger, retrieve medication, and help me stay safe day to day.

Choosing a cockapoo was deliberate. I needed the intelligence and problem‑solving ability of the poodle, paired with the steady companionship and gentle nature of the cocker spaniel. Bella arrived as a puppy, and from the beginning she showed the instincts and focus that working dogs are known for.

Now ten months old, Bella already performs essential tasks: she alerts me before and during episodes, retrieves medication, and opens doors when needed. She will undertake her airline assessment this year, continuing her progression as a fully trained assistance dog.

It’s important to be clear about her role. Bella is not an emotional support dog. She is a trained assistance dog, performing specific, necessary tasks that directly support my safety and independence. Emotional support animals provide comfort; assistance dogs perform legally recognised, task‑based work. Pawfect Doggy will offer full legal definitions and guidance elsewhere on the site, but Bella’s status is unambiguous.

Training her—watching her learn, adapt, and step into her role—became the spark behind Pawfect Doggy. I realised how many people could benefit from clear, practical guidance on training, behaviour, and responsible dog ownership. The site grew from that idea: a place where anyone can learn how to bring out the best in their dog, whether for companionship, family life, or specialised work.

Bella’s journey is the foundation of everything here. Her intelligence, reliability, and instinctive loyalty shaped the mission of Pawfect Doggy: to empower owners with knowledge, support, and resources that help dogs thrive and humans feel confident in their partnership.
